Dr. Gitterle is a graduate of the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He is a Certified Wound Specialist (American Board of Wound Management), a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Wound Specialists, and a nationally recognized speaker and leader in the treatment of complex wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, cancer-related wounds, wounds related to autoimmune diseases, and other types of complex, chronic wounds.
Dr. Gitterle is also a recognized leader in the use of advanced wound care modalities, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), the use of Engineered Skin Grafts, and other advanced wound care techniques. He serves as Regional Medical Director for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine for Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, Chief of Staff of Christus Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels, and holds hospital privileges at many other hospitals in the region.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Gitterle is an educator, involved in the training of physicians, PAs, and Advanced Practice Nurses at Wound Care University. He serves as Chief Medical Officer of WoundCentrics, LLC, where he leads a team of 54 wound care providers in 12 states, and more than 40 hospitals.
Dr. Gitterle has worked as Principal Investigator with the US Army Institute for Surgical Research where he conducted groundbreaking research in the area of wound microbiology and infection. His research has been presented at conferences in the US and Europe.
