1. Define the types of pain treated in a wound care center. 
2. Review the influence of COVID-19 on pain-related concerns- anxiety, depression, sense of isolation, sleep disturbances, suicidal attempts, and accidental suicides from controlled use. 
3. Summarize regulatory policies influencing treatment options needed to manage pain patients. 
       a. Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMP)
       b. E-prescribing for All Controlled Substances 
       c. Urine Drug Screening (UDS)
       d. Use of Telemedicine
4. Practical application of processes required for compliance in a clinical practice

About the Speakers

Adrianne P S Smith, MD is the Chief Medical Officer for San Antonio-based, NuHope, a unique treatment center bringing the expertise of a wide variety of medical specialists and health professionals to treat patients with opioid dependency and debilitating pain in addition to offering preoperative assessments.   Dr. Smith graduated from Duke University, cum laude, received her MD from Washington University Medical School (St. Louis) and completed fellowships and post graduate training in Internal Medicine, Emergency Care and Hyperbaric Medicine in Wound Care.  

Dr. Adam Bruggeman has a unique background as the only physician that is Texas board certified in both addiction medicine and orthopedic surgery. After several years as a leading orthopedic surgeon within his own practice, Texas Spine Care Center, Adam founded NuHope in an effort to bring innovation to pain management and opioid treatment. The number one reason people take opioids is orthopedic-related, which is why Adam has made it his personal goal to be a leader in this area.
