President
Dr. Jeffrey Niezgoda is the Medical Director of The Centers for Comprehensive Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy , St. Luke's Medical Center, Aurora Health Care, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Hyperbaric & Wound Care Associates, a medical specialty group serving Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. He is the President of the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine and an Associate Professor and Hyperbaric Consultant at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Niezgoda is a recognized wound care expert and has served as faculty at both national as well as international conferences. He has participated on multiple Expert Consensus Panels and has appeared before Medicare and Medicaid Services as a wound care advisor. Dr. Niezgoda received his Medical Degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Bethesda, Maryland, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dr. Niezgoda is Board Certified in Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care.

Vice President
Thomas E. Serena, MD, FACS, Founder and Medical Director of the
Penn North Centers for Advanced Wound Care ™ is a Phi Beta Kappa
graduate of The College of William and Mary and Penn State Medical
School. He completed his residency in Surgery at The Milton S. Hershey
Medical Center with fellowship training in Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery at Southern Illinois University. He is a professor at Gannon
University in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he developed an acute
wound-healing model. In addition, he has an appointment at the Lake
Erie College of Medicine. He is engaged in trials on bioengineered
skin, growth factors, gene therapy, and stem cell research. He has
published more than 75 papers and given over 175 presentations
throughout the world. In 2003 he was elected to the board of directors
of The Wound Healing Society and now serves as chairman of the
industrial relations committee. He authored four of the Societies
national guidelines for chronic wounds. To date, Penn North™, under his
direction, operates more than 20 wound care centers across the United
States. He is the chief operating officer of the Oxygen-8™ hyperbaric
medicine centers, with clinics from New York City to the west coast.
Dr. Serena has been the lead or Principal investigator in over 35
clinical trials, including testing blood platelets, topical and
parenteral antibiotics, novel indications for hyperbaric oxygen and
bi-layered cell therapy. Clinical trials and basic science research is
conducted by NewBridge Medical Research™, a not-for-profit medical
research company also founded by Dr. Serena. On three occasions
NewBridge has received funded from the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Serena is the Health Volunteers Overseas program director for Phnom
Penh, Cambodia, recently returning from volunteer work in January of
2008.

Board Members
Bob Bartlett, MD, (Immediate Past President), is an Associate Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University , and a 1980 Magna cum Laude graduate of the University of South Alabama School of Medicine. He is certified in Wound Care, Hyperbaric Medicine, and Emergency Medicine and is a member of the American Collegeof Physician Executives. He is the Editor in Chief and founding member for the creation of two certification exams. One is the physician exam for hyperbaric medicine and the other is the physician exam for wound care administered by the Council on Medical Education and Testing. Educationally, he has participated in training of more than 3,500 health care professionals in wound care and hyperbaric. As the Senior Clinical Advisor for one of the largest wound care companies in America, he is responsible for more than 1,000 physicians providing wound care coast to coast. In addition to his 25 years of wound care experience he has also garnered considerable management experience through the creation and direction of several health care companies and one health care foundation. His interests include knowledge engineering, oxygen dynamics, and on-line education. Current research activities include medical applications of hyperspectral imaging and decision support systems.
Gregory Bohn, MD
Caroline E. Fife, MD, received her BS and MD degrees from Texas A&M University College of Medicine and completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas. She completed a Fellowship in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in 1990, and then joined the faculty of the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston where she is an Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiology. She is subspecialty boarded in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine and is a Certified Wound Specialist. She initiated the Memorial Hermann Center for Wound Healing in 1990, adding a lymphedema treatment center in 1998. Dr. Fife is the co-editor of the textbook "Wound Care Practice," now in its second edition. She is a past president of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, and is currently on the Board of the AAWC. Dr. Fife is also the Chief Medical Officer of Intellicure, a Texas based software company which, since 2000 has provided a specialty specific electronic medical record system to wound and hyperbaric centers across the U.S. She is the Director of Clinical Research for the Intellicure Research Consortium, responsible for performing some of the largest outcome studies in the wound care industry.
Kathy Furnas, RN, BSN, ACHRN, has been a registered nurse for over 24 years. She first received an Associates Degree 1st Decile in Nursing from Rhode Island Jr. College in 1981. In 1994 she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Regis University. Her nursing experience includes Medical/Surgical, Intensive Care and Employee Health. Kathy first became interested in Hyperbaric Nursing while working in the Intensive Care Unit. She joined the on-call staff of the Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center of Denver, Colorado, in 1991. In 1997 she became the Clinical Coordinator of the same Hyperbaric Medicine Center and is currently the Vice President of Nursing at Oxyheal Health Group . Kathy is active in the Baromedical Nurse’s Association, currently serving as President. She has previously served in all offices of the organization and has been the editor for the website and newsletter.
Christopher Grant, CHWS, is founder and President of ProVision Hyperbaric , a hyperbaric and wound care consulting group for new and existing programs. Also, he is the founder and President of Professional Hyperbaric Associates (ProHBO) , a private practice hyperbaric treatment center in Marietta, Georgia. In addition, he formed the non-profit Global Hyperbaric Medical Alliance to grant financial assistance to patients, provide resources and education on HBOT and offer a research platform for the expansion of HBOT. His association with hyperbarics began in 1982 as a professional diver and instructor for various college and university science programs. He participated in the development of the first dive computer and developed the first diving safety program for Florida which was adopted by the Diving Equipment and Manufacturing Association. He is the former Editor of SCUBA Times Magazine and founded the comprehensive diving medical resource www.Scuba-Doc.com . In addition, he opened the country’s first non-hospital owned multiplace-hyperbaric emergency clinic and wound care center. He has been a consultant and advisor for various hyperbaric programs, Divers Alert Network, Georgia State Medical Board and the Pentagon. Chris is a graduate of Florida State University, BS Health Education and a former Navy Corpsman serving with a Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit and the Marine Corps. He volunteers his time as a speaker for Career Care Seminars, SCORE and American Express on Starting Your Own Business and related topics.
Jeffrey A. Stone, D.O., M.P.H., FCCWS, is the Medical and Fellowship Director for the Hyperbaric Medicine
Unit at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine at Texas Health
Presbyterian Dallas. He is a staff physician at the Wound Center at
Medical City Dallas, North Texas Wound Center, Texas Speciality Wound Center
and The Limb Salvage and Wound Center at Dallas Medical Center.
A past president and vice president of the Texas Affiliate of the American
Diabetes Association, Dr. Stone received his medical degree from the College of
Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and a Master of Public Health from Harvard
University. He completed a residency in aerospace medicine and a fellowship in
hyperbaric medicine and wound care at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace
Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base. Dr. Stone also started and developed the
Army's hyperbaric medicine program. He is certified in hyperbaric medicine and
board certified aerospace medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy
of Wound Care Management, and a Certified Wound Specialist. He has published
articles on hyperbaric oxygenation, decompression sickness, the diabetic foot
and other wound issues. He is both an avid pilot and scuba diver.
He serves as hyperbaric consultant to the Department of Veterans Affairs
Medical Center, Dallas, Texas; Poison Control Center of North Dallas;
Department of Health and Human Services Office of General: Office of Evaluation
and Inspections, and to companies in the health insurance industry. He also
serves as Senior Medical Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration. Dr.
Stone is also available for peer reviews, legal reviews, and medical
malpractice reviews.
